School trips shortlisted
for top award
Judges of the ‘My Best School Trip’ Award were impressed with the way schools ensured the
visits were inclusive, affordable and how they embedded the learning
“A shared journey of courage,
perseverance and growth” was one of
many comments highlighted by judges
from the 2025 ‘My Best School Trip’ Award
entries. As part of the annual School
Travel Awards, EVCs and teachers from a
variety of schools entered a particular trip
they had been involved with which had a
meaningful impact on the students and
staff involved.
The winning school will scoop up £2,000
to spend on a future educational visit.
“What stood out was how inclusive the
visits were; not only the affordability, but
also how staff ensured the trips catered
for students’ individual needs,” said
Keeley Rodgers of School Travel Organiser
magazine, who organises the awards.
“We were also impressed with how they
embedded the learning before and after
the trips. The result of this was that the
visits had a long-lasting impact.”
The other judges were: Peter Carne OBE,
Learning Outside the Classroom Manifesto
Champion; Gill Harvey, School Travel
Forum; Anne Hunt, Council for Learning
Outside the Classroom; and Rob Yandell,
publisher of School Travel Organiser.
HERE ARE THE 2025 FINALISTS
Abbeymead Primary School, Gloucester for their Year
5/6 Snowdon adventure. They ensured that all children,
regardless of background or need, had the opportunity to
take part.
Diss High School, Norfolk for their Year 12 trip to New
York. With funding from the Turing Scheme, the fournight residential improved students’ independence and
resilience.
Falmouth School, Cornwall for their Year 9 Girls in STEM
day trip to King Edward Mine. There has since been an
increase in the number of students opting for Design and
Technology as well as more enthusiasm for STEM topics.
Southgate School, Huddersfield for their residential
to the Calvert Trust in the Lake District. Inclusivity and
affordability were central to this trip to ensure that every
pupil, regardless of need, could take part.
St Woolos Primary School in Newport, Wales for their
Year 5 residential to Treginnis Farm. The whole year was
able to go and the trip was a “catalyst for meaningful,
sustained change” in the school’s curriculum and community.
