Q
My students are going out on work
experience. As they’re going o昀昀site,
do I need to put this into EVOLVE?
For work experience, a student acts as if they
are employed by the organisation – they
make their own way there without school
supervision, they are given tasks to do by the work
placement team, and so on. This isn’t usually classed
as an educational visit, so you won’t need to enter
these visits into EVOLVE.
Work experience is usually covered by your employer’s
health and safety arrangements, so the best person
to speak to is your school’s Health and Safety Adviser.

Q
What about when we take students
to visit a workplace?
Different rules apply if you’re taking
students to a factory or office for a school
visit. Perhaps they’re going to learn about
production processes or find out how a business
functions as part of a careers week or a corporate
partnership. This does count as an educational visit
and so the usual guidance applies.
The key thing to remember in this case is that, in
general, host workplaces are not expected to hold the
LOtC Quality Badge because they are not operating as
a provider of educational visits. You will still need to do
your due diligence.
Ask your adviser for more support and check your
employer’s policy for any specific requirements.
