The Azores, a stunning Portuguese archipelago, offers an unparalleled
opportunity for pupils
to immerse themselves in the wonders of biology and geography.
Known for its lush volcanic
landscapes, geothermal activity, and rich biodiversity, the Azores
is a living classroom where
science comes to life.
This six-day adventure is packed with exciting activities that highlight
the unique features of
these islands. Pupils will explore geothermal marvels like Lagoa das
Furnas and Caldeira
Velha, hike to breathtaking waterfalls, and study volcanic landscapes
at Sete Cidades. Visits
to a tea factory and pineapple farm showcase the region's agricultural
heritage, while a
whale-watching tour provides a close-up encounter with marine
life guided by local
biologists.
The trip also includes a journey into the Gruta do Carvão lava
caves and a visit to a geothermal power plant, blending
exploration with education. Ponta Delgada, the vibrant capital
of São Miguel Island, offers a glimpse into the Azores' cultural
and historical significance.
With opportunities to witness crater lakes, lush forests, and
dramatic coastlines, this tour celebrates the intersection of
nature and learning. Pupils will return with a deeper
appreciation of our planet's beauty, a strengthened connection
to the environment, and memories to last a lifetime.

staff and empowering them to lead ambitious, safe and
enriching visits. She also shares knowledge and good
practice gained from her regular EVOLVE Advice training.
Marie says: “I am truly delighted and honoured to have
received the EVC of the Year Award, and incredibly grateful
for the nominations. Since my very first trip to the Science
Museum in 2000, each visit has reinforced my strong belief
in the value of learning outside the classroom. I feel so
lucky to do a job that allows me not only to lead these
experiences but also to train and support new teachers in
delivering them safely and confidently.
“I still remember my first EVC training with Jake Wiid,
who emphasised the importance of balancing safety with
challenge, encouraging us to step beyond our comfort
zones while ensuring students are supported and secure.
That has stayed with me throughout my career.
“Educational visits open doors. They inspire, challenge
and create lasting memories. I remain passionate about
continuing to provide students with experiences that
take their learning beyond the school gates and into
the wider world.”
“Marie always demonstrates exceptional
diligence and professionalism, ensuring
that every school visit meets the highest
standards of safety, inclusivity and
educational value” – Nick Lee
