FOR PLANNING THE PERFECT SCHOOL CONCERT TOUR
It’s exciting to imagine your students playing to audiences across the globe but
there’s a lot of planning that goes into a memorable music tour. Who better to give
you advice than people who’ve led successful music tours themselves? These top
tips are inspired by conversations with experienced visit leaders.

START WITH YOUR STUDENTS
You’ve already got a rewarding musical educational
relationship with your students but taking them away
on tour is a very different experience. Think about
their needs and how they’ll cope with staying in an
unfamiliar place, away from friends and family.

the first thing they say is: I was on the
Austria tour (for example)… A tour is a
major highlight of their life”

→ Give them space: pick a hotel with a dedicated
space to unwind – appropriately supervised, of course.
→ Establish a timetable: keep your students busy
and engaged.
→ Assign roles: simple things like getting friends
ready for a timeslot, or ensuring all instruments are
accounted for can help students feel involved.
→ Build a group identity: task students with
designing tour t-shirts, hoodies or bags. It’s a great way
to start generating excitement about the trip.
