COUNCIL FOR LEARNING
OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM
Who?
Why?
The Council for Learning Outside
the Classroom (CLOtC) is the
UK charity that champions all
learning that happens beyond the
classroom, for everyone.
Evidence is strong and consistent
that learning outside the classroom
(LOtC) delivers multiple benefits
to health, wellbeing, learning, and
skills. It boosts attainment in core
subjects, and is proven to increase
engagement with learning.
It focuses on building confidence
in schools and other settings to
take more of their teaching and
learning beyond the classroom.
This includes anything from using
your school grounds to expeditions
abroad (and everything in
between).
As the impact is often greatest
for those who need it most, it has
an important role in addressing
inequalities. www.lotc.org.uk/

What?
CLOtC runs the LOtC Quality Badge accreditation scheme for providers
and the LOtC Quality Mark for educational settings. It provides training
and CPD resources for schools and providers, and organises the National
LOtC Conference.

→ Find providers quality assured for their risk management and

Who?
The School Travel Forum is a notfor-profit organisation dedicated to
promoting best practice in school
travel worldwide. Its members include
travel companies and tour operators
specialising in educational visits
such as study, sports and cultural
tours. Members are bound by a Code
of Practice and Safety Management
Standards.
Why?
The STF’s Assured Membership
scheme simplifies and provides
reassurance to schools looking to
organise overseas visits. All assured
members undergo a detailed and
independent audit of their safety
management processes and the
quality of the educational experience,
and qualify for the LOtC Quality
Badge. This can help reduce your own
paperwork and speed up the process
of planning an overseas visit.
The School Travel Forum also
lobbies Government on issues such
as reducing bureaucracy for school
groups travelling to and from Europe.
