Land and Wave School Trips
Residentials
EXPECTATIONS
Set clear expectations about
behaviour, and clarify which
items are not allowed on the visit;
encourage parents to discuss these
expectations with their children.
These might include:
• a behaviour policy and contract
• whether mobile phones or
electronic devices are permitted
(and how and when they may
be used)
• whether snacks, sweets and fizzy
drinks are allowed
• your policy on spending money
KEEP PARENTS
UPDATED
During the visit, reassure parents
with regular updates and photos via
the school portal or communication
functions in visit-management
systems such as EVOLVE. It is a
huge help when parents can see
that their child is happy and
enjoying the experience.
By fostering trust and open
communication, parents and their
children will feel better prepared
for a successful and memorable
residential experience.
SEND solutions
If children with additional
needs will be taking part in
a residential, consider how
you will support them on
the visit. Bring in the SENCO
and any support workers
involved well ahead of
time to discuss all relevant
details with parents and,
where appropriate, children
and address any concerns
they may have.
It can be very helpful to
arrange a pre-visit for
parents and children, so
they can become familiar
with the venue, meet
the staff and resolve
any potential issues.
