PROFESSIONAL STATUS
A MARK OF QUALITY
The educational visits sector has become increasingly
professional over time as sector organisations and
membership bodies were created to support individuals
and companies working in outdoor education. The
Outdoor Education Advisers’ Panel (OEAP) played an
instrumental role, introducing early guidance in 1988, as
well as the first formal training for EVCs and Visit Leaders
in 2004, and National Guidance in 2012.
The launch of the LOtC Quality Badge in 2008 was a
key milestone, providing schools with an easy way to
identify high-quality learning providers. Other awards
and inspection programmes from organisations such as
AHOEC, School Travel Forum and AALA are now linked to
Quality Badge recognition, ensuring a joined-up approach
to setting and monitoring high standards across different
types of visit. See pages 32–33 for more information
about these schemes.
