Why schools should look for the LOtC Quality Badge for all of their educational visits
When you are planning educational visits and
inviting external providers into schools, ensuring
quality and safety is crucial.
The LOtC Quality Badge, which is managed by
the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom
(CLOtC) is widely recognised as a trusted benchmark
for assessing both educational value and risk
management of educational visits. This award is
endorsed by the Department for Education and
Senedd Cymru.

The CLOtC is working hard to raise awareness of how
educational visits can support learning. Following
a recent meeting, the Minister for School Standards
has spoken of the value of such visits, highlighting
their role in improving educational outcomes,
developing skills and enhancing wellbeing.
Why the LOtC Quality Badge matters
l High-quality learning – providers must
demonstrate clear learning objectives, making
sure that visits are meaningful and linked to
educational goals.

THREE TOP TIPS TO INTEGRATE THE LOtC
QUALITY BADGE INTO YOUR PLANNING…
Ask for it! – Encourage providers to apply if
they don’t hold the LOtC Quality Badge already.
Search for a provider – Find badged providers
via CLOtC or Kaddi or within your visit
management system, such as EVOLVE.
Explain why – Tell staff, parents and governors
what it means for your visit.
l Safeguarding & risk management –
Quality Badge holders have demonstrated
that they have robust safeguarding and riskmanagement systems, which can help to
reduce paperwork for schools.
l Time-saving & simplified planning – the
Quality Badge helps schools to quickly
identify trusted providers.
l Well-established – the LOtC Quality Badge
is endorsed by the English and Welsh
governments; the OEAP/OEAP Cymru
recommends that all schools look for it
when booking a provider
of LOtC.
