Data from EVOLVE tells me that this is going
to be another packed summer of educational
visits with over 800,000 children and young
people looking forward to almost 60,000 visits
before the end of the school year.
Some of you will already be looking ahead
to next year’s trips too, so it’s a good time to
review evaluation and feedback and include
any learnings in planning for future visits.
Speak to your Adviser if you need support with
monitoring or evaluation.
The summer term is always a
busy time for training, too. It’s
great to see our EVC and Visit
Leader courses selling out*,
showing that schools are prioritising safety and
team development. If you missed our recent
series of advice webinars, they’re available to
watch for free on demand at →evolveadvice.
co.uk/videos. The sessions covered core
aspects of risk management for educational
visits, following the STAGED approach – they’re
definitely worth including in your CPD plans.
(*don’t worry, we’ve added more dates so you
won’t miss out!)
RISK AND REWARD

The safety timeline on pages 23–25 offers a
great snapshot of how far we’ve come.

At the same time, let’s remember that helping
children learn to assess and manage risk is a
vital part of outdoor learning. It’s up to all of us
to strike the right balance: keeping things safe
while giving young people the chance to stretch
themselves and discover what they’re capable of.
