Language tours
Case study: From Exeter to Nice
Delphine Masters, Head of French at Exeter School, took a group
of 20 students to Nice for a five-day immersive language visit with
Visions in Education.
Each day started with a three-hour French lesson in two different
ability groups. In the afternoons they explored the area on excursions,
including a guided walking tour of Nice, a trip to the nearby hilltop
village of Eze, a train ride to Antibes and a visit to the Picasso Museum
,
all delivered in French by their personal guide.
Delphine says “The students were immersed in the French language
all day. The whole experience couldn’t have gone better; I really feel
that this trip has made a huge impact on our pupils’ language skills.”
Plan ahead
Hear the difference!
Once you have booked your visit, arrange a
meeting with the students to organise who
they would like to share their host family with.
The earlier you can send a list of the student
pairings and any requirements (such as
medical and dietary needs and allergies) to the
tour operator and language school, the better.
That way, there’s a higher chance of being able
to include all students who want to attend and
meet any preferences or requests.
Immersive language visits can give your
students an all-important boost before GCSE
or A Level exams. Students quickly become
more confident about speaking the target
language because they’re using it all day –
not just in lessons, but in real situations, with
real people. They’ll connect the language with
these new experiences and with having fun,
helping to embed their learning for longer.
