Staying on top of the latest National Guidance can be tough when you’re busy. We’ve
put together a selection of key guidance updates since March to help you keep track.

Since our last edition, OEAP National
Guidance has revised 22 guidance documents
and published 16 new translations into
Welsh. Key updates are listed below:

guidance on the cost of reasonable
adjustments and funding for these.
TRAVEL
Overseas Visits UPDATED with new

of activities for employer approval. Greater
emphasis on employers’ choice not to require

following DBS eligibility changes including for

Latest government updates on safety and safeguarding
New rules for DBS checks
The Crime and Policing Act
2026 has significantly expanded
eligibility for Enhanced DBS
checks, particularly for selfemployed individuals and those
in supervised roles. Council for
Learning Outside the Classroom
(CLOtC) worked with the Head
of Policy at DBS to produce a
summary of the different roles
within the LOtC sector (e.g.
providers, volunteers, coaches)
and their eligibility for DBS
checks. Read more at

Key safeguarding document
to include guidance on gender
Guidance on children who are
questioning their gender will
be included as a new section
in Keeping Children Safe in
Education (KCSIE) statutory
safeguarding guidance, in
proposals set out by the
Department for Education. It
includes guidance on shared
toilets, changing rooms and
residential accommodation.
Final guidance is expected in

Benedict’s Law – a significant
step forward in allergy safety
In February, the Government
formally passed Benedict’s Law,
which will bring consistent,
life-saving protections into
every school. Schools will be
required to develop a wholeschool allergy policy; ensure
that all staff (not just teachers)
are trained in awareness and
response; hold emergency
medication; and implement
individual care plans for relevant
students. For more details and

Martyn’s Law guidance
published
In April, the Home Office
published new statutory
guidance to support the
implementation of The
Terrorism (Protection of
Premises) Act 2025, known
as Martyn’s Law, to ensure
that public places are better
prepared for terrorist attacks.
Schools are included in the
establishments in scope of the
law, as are venues that might be
visited by school groups. Find
